Biblical Principle #241: Israel’s Settlement of Difficult Cases

Biblical Principles List

Under the Law of Moses, God gave instructions for handling difficult court cases.

Certain court cases were too difficult for Israel’s local judges to know how to settle without assistance.

GOD told Moses how Israel was to handle these difficult court cases:

8 “If there is some matter you are unable to judge, between degrees of guilt for bloodshed, between one judgment or another, or between one punishment or another, matters of controversy in your cities, then you shall arise and go up to the place the Lord your God chooses for His name to be called upon there. 9 So you shall come to the priests, the Levites, and to the judge there in those days and inquire of them; and they shall pronounce the judgment for you.

Deuteronomy 17:8-9 OSB
  1. Go to the place GOD would choose to place His name (Jerusalem, eventually).
  2. Take the case to the priests, Levites, and the judge there.
  3. Ask them and they will pronounce the judgment for you.
