Biblical Principle #12: God Hates Sin

Biblical Principles List

Principle

God hates sin.

Explanation

GOD designed all of creation to function as He intended. Behavior that is inconsistent with GOD’s design is sin. Because sin is against GOD’s will, GOD hates sin. (In the Bible, particularly the Old Testament, sin is often referred to as lawlessness.)

Consider the following Scriptures.

5 For You are not a God who wills lawlessness,
Nor shall the evildoer dwell with You.
6 The lawless shall not stand before Your eyes;
You hate all the workers of lawlessness;
7 You shall destroy all who speak falsehood;
The Lord abhors the man of violence and deceit.

Psalm 5:5-7 OSB

5 The Lord examines the righteous man and the ungodly man,
And he who loves unrighteousness hates his own soul.

Psalm 10 [11]:5 OSB

17 A man who is without discernment and is lawless does not walk in good ways.
But he winks with an eye; he makes a sign with his foot,
And teaches with the wav e of his hand.
18 And with a perverse heart, he constantly schemes evil things;
Such a man causes trouble in a city.
19 Therefore his destruction comes suddenly,
A deep and incurable wound.
20 For he rejoices in everything the Lord hates,
And he shall be broken because of his soul’s uncleanness:
21 A haughty eye, an unrighteous tongue,
Hands that shed righteous blood,
22 A heart that devises evil thoughts,
And feet that hasten to do evil;
23 As a false witness he kindles injustice
And causes quarrels between brethren.

Proverbs 6:17-23 OSB

8 For I am the Lord, who loves righteousness and hates robberies of wrongdoing.

Isaiah 61:8a OSB

14 Seek good and not evil so that you may live, so that the Lord God Almighty will be with you.

Amos 5:14a OSB

16 These are the things you shall do: speak the truth, each man to his neighbor, and judge with peaceful judgment in your gates, 17 and let none of you plan evil in his heart against his neighbor, and do not love a false oath, for all these things I hate,’ says the Lord Almighty.”

Zechariah 8:16-17 OSB
