Kids' lesson on the subject of Listening.

Key Verse

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry (Jam. 1:19)

Lesson

On the night before Jesus was crucified He shared a special meal with the apostles.  After the meal Judas left the group to betray Jesus for money.  Jesus began to give the remaining 11 apostles instructions regarding what was about to take place with His death.

Read John 13:36-38.  Note what Peter said to Jesus and how confident he was that he would stand by Jesus' side.

Read John 18:25-27.  After Jesus had been arrested, Peter seemingly forgot all about his promise to Jesus only a few hours earlier.

When we speak too soon it gets us in trouble.  It has been said that GOD gave us two ears and one mouth because we should listen twice as much as we speak.  There is a lot of wisdom in this general principle.

If we will learn to slow ourselves down and think before we speak then we'll save ourselves a lot of pain in this life.

Read Jam. 3:5.
