top 10 pedestal

Aside from my precious Savior, Jesus, who obviously tops the list, here are ten examples of spiritual blessings I'm thankful for today.

10. I'm thankful for the process GOD uses to grow people.

I'm thankful that GOD brings us along slowly, at His pace—which, like everything He does, is what's best for us. I'm thankful that He's still working on, in and through me.

9. I'm thankful for the opportunity to play a role in GOD's story.

What a wonderful blessing it is to be able to impact the events of human existence, and to be able to help save people by introducing them to Jesus.

8. I'm thankful for the simple nature of the good news of Jesus Christ.

If there's a theme for the gospel, it's simplicity in Christ. When you study the Law of Moses and compare that with the Law of Christ, it should make us immensely thankful for how much better the New Covenant is in Jesus.

7. I'm thankful that every time I read my Bible, I discover something "new" that GOD placed there long ago.

It's amazing how consistent it is that, when I read, GOD teaches me something new.

It's amazing to think of His infinite wisdom and how, each time I discover that proverbial gold nugget, GOD placed that there for me (and others) to find and at that specific moment, when I was prepared to receive it.

Jesus spoke often of the importance of seeing and hearing and how there are many who have the ability (eyes and ears) but never see nor hear. It scares me to think of what I might be missing when I find something new that's been there all along in the Bible.

6. I'm thankful for new songs which touch my heart in a special way.

I love old songs, but I very much enjoy the way my heart feels when I hear a new spiritual song that touches me. I crave that feeling, and I'm thankful for the people to which GOD has given the ability to write beautiful songs and music.

5. I'm thankful that Jesus opposed the religious leaders of the day.

The Pharisees, Sadducees, Sanhedrin, priests and teachers of the Law were so corrupt. Sadly, that has been the case throughout time regarding religious leaders. Power, attention, praise of men, popularity, and money have lured many a once-good-hearted person away from the LORD. GOD help me avoid ever craving anything but You.

4. I'm thankful that GOD has shown me in His word that worship is a lifestyle that is not confined to public assemblies.

This is a fundamental truth that Christians today need to understand. Worship involves way more than just what we do when Christians assemble on Sunday or during the week. See Rom. 12:1-2.

When you understand this, your entire perspective on GOD and what it means to worship Him acceptably becomes way more meaningful and all-encompassing.

3. I'm thankful for like-minded brethren who keep me from feeling alone in this world.

It's not good for man to be alone. GOD said as much in the Garden in the beginning. Sadly, I've felt alone spiritually from time to time. I'm very thankful that GOD has given me like-minded Christians with which to work and edify one another. What a tremendous blessing this is!

2. I'm thankful that I don't have to settle for mediocrity in my relationship with GOD.

I can recall sitting in "church" at times past and thinking, "Wow, this is so depressing and boring! This cannot be from GOD. GOD cannot be the author of this. There has to be more than this."

Thankfully, there is something more, something deeper. Don't misunderstand me—I'm not talking about seeking entertainment or theatrics here.

I'm talking about a true, heartfelt, deeply meaningful relationship with GOD that includes public church meetings but also every single day of your life. Jesus offers "life more abundantly" (John 10) and, if you ask Him for it, He'll give it to you, if you're willing to pursue Him.

1. I'm thankful for GOD's grace, which keeps salvation easily within reach.

When I was a kid, up until about 16 years old, I didn't understand GOD's grace. I thought that being a Christian wasn't all that great, because I lived in fear, thinking that I had to keep all the commandments perfectly even though I had become a Christian and, if I slipped up—even if I didn't know it—and I forgot to pray the generic "forgive me of my sins" prayer after that event, and I died or Jesus returned, that I would go to hell.

Then I read Romans and I realized for the first time what grace is about. That changed my life and filled me with joy, which has only grown stronger since.

This is a most precious blessing from GOD. He hasn't given us a "one-in-a-million shot" at heaven. No, He offers salvation which is very attainable if we "walk according to the Spirit" (Rom. 8:1) and confess our sins to Him (1 John 1:9).

This is my list.
