- Psalm 119
Devotional
At 176 verses, Psalm 119 is the longest “chapter” in all of GOD’s word. The focus of this psalm is on the importance of the word of GOD and His law, and upon obeying it.
GOD has given us commands that are to be fully obeyed. A young man may keep his ways pure by living according to GOD’s word. David, the psalmist, said, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11) GOD rebukes the arrogant, who are cursed and who stray from His commands. GOD’s law is our counselor—it teaches us how to live. David said, “I have run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free.“
GOD has given us hope. His promises preserve our life and comforts us through suffering. GOD is our portion. His law is righteous. The earth is filled with His love. GOD formed me and made me with His own hands. His love is unfailing. All of GOD’s commands are trustworthy. His word is eternal, standing firm in the heavens. His faithfulness continues throughout all generations. He established the earth and it endures. All things serve Him. GOD’s commands are limitless.
“GOD’s commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me.” When I read His law, GOD Himself teaches me. GOD’s word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. He is my refuge and my shield. I have put my hope in His word. GOD rejects all who stray from His decrees. His commands are wonderful and that’s why we should obey them. The unfolding of His word gives light and understanding to the simple. GOD is righteous and so is His word. His righteousness is everlasting and His word is true. GOD is near us. His compassion is great.
