- Josh. 18:1-21:45
Devotional
During these chapters we read how Joshua and Eleazar the high priest divided the remaining land among the tribes of Israel. They determined the order by casting lots, which fell in the following order: Benjamin, Simeon, Zebulun, Asher, Naphtali, and Dan. Joshua was given the city of Timnah Serah which was located in the hill country of Ephraim. The Cities of Refuge—where someone could go if they accidentally killed another person—were determined throughout the land. Finally, the towns were given to the Levites throughout the various tribes according to family.
Thus GOD fulfilled the second of the three promises He made to Abraham hundreds of years earlier. His descendants had become a great nation—as numerous as the sand on the beach—and they had their land as well. The last promise, that in Abraham’s seed all nations would be blessed, would be fulfilled about 1,400 years later when Jesus was born.
So the LORD gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and dwelt in it. The LORD gave them rest all around, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers. And not a man of all their enemies stood against them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand. Not a word failed of any good thing which the LORD had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.
(Josh. 21:43-45 NKJV)
GOD did what He said He would do. GOD always does what He promises. He cannot lie because it is against His nature, and no one is powerful or cunning enough to stop His will from coming to pass.
