Devotional

The Bible is GOD’s word. It is His thoughts handed down to men and women, boys and girls, so that we can know a lot about what He is like and what He thinks. Even more than this, through the Bible we can come to know GOD Himself! And that ought to be our aim in life.

GOD is Eternal

The first Bible verse, says:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
(Gen. 1:1)

Gen. 1 tells us how, in six days, GOD created everything we see – and some things we can’t see. But have you ever thought about the fact that before everything in this universe existed, there was only GOD?

The first thing we learn about GOD is that He has no beginning. Psalm 90:2 tells us,

“Before the mountains were brought forth,
Or ever You had formed the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”

GOD has no beginning and He has no ending. He always has been and always will be. That makes GOD unlike anything or anyone else because everything else has a beginning point. Simply put, GOD has no birthday.

We are Image-bearers

Gen. 1:26-27 says:

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

What does this mean? It is difficult to say exactly what GOD meant when He said we are made in His image, but one thing we know is that we are spirit beings. We have a soul that lives on after our body dies.

Eccl. 12:7 says:

Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.
